Aaron Lennon is a big name in the world of football. He was born on 16th April, 1987 in the small town of Chapeltown, situated in Leeds. He got noticed after scoring a hat trick in the FA Youth Cup in the season 2002-03. After that, he signed his first academy contract in 2003.
In 2009, Aaron Lennon became the youngest Premiership player. He was just 16 years old then. In 2005, financial constraints forced Leeds to take him to White Hart Lane for an undisclosed amount. He soon made his debut for White Hart Lane. He was the member of Leeds United A.F.C Reserves and Youth Team before he first entered the team setup.
During his first match for White Hart Lane, the team lost the match 2-0 against Chelsea but Aaron Lennon got notice. Aaron slowly eased into premiership football. He was made to either start or was introduced around the 70-75 minute of the game. With the passage of time, the bosses of the club started realizing that Aaron has got something which the other players lacked, i.e. Speed.
His soaring popularity and superb style of play forced the England U21 manager Peter Taylor to call him up. Soon, Sven-Goran Eriksson, the manager of the England 2006 World Cup Squad called him up.
The season 2006-07 was not good for Aaron Lennon and he got off to a poor start in the first four games. He also suffered a tear in the cartilage, for which he went a required knee operation. This kept him out of actions for around two months.
He is only 5’5” feet tall, but he is considered to be one of the fastest players in the English football. A major achievement of Aaron Lennon is that he signed the contract with Adidas at the age of 14. He has an elder brother, Anthony. He also played at the Leeds Academy with Aaron, but never made into the first team.
Aaron Lennon comes from a varied background. He hails from family of Irish, Jamaican and English descent. During his school days he went to Boston Spa School. He has a younger sister and brother.
Some of the major achievements of Aaron Lennon are that he was declared Tottenham Hotspur Football Club ‘Young Player Of The Year’ in the year 2008-09 and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club ‘Player Of The Year’ in the year 2008-09. At the moment, he is one of the most influential players in a Spurs jersey. He is strong in defeating the opposition defenses and is too quick in the field. He scores goal and he creates goal.
Aaron Lennon was also nominated for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year for the year 2005-06. However, the award went to England’s Wayne Rooney. On 8th January 2007, Lennon entered into a five and a half year contract with Tottenham. For his superb form in 2008-09 English football season, he was nominated for the third time for the Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year
